It's finally here! This trip has been years in the making--from the inception of a crazy dream to actually finding as crazy as Kati to help me make this trip into a reality.
At this point it still seems a little surreal that we'll be in Praha (Prague) in less than 24 hours. It's been a whirlwind week preparing everything for our departure. I can't believe that only 4 days ago I was sitting in a massive room at the NC State Fairgrounds, sitting for the NC bar! From there we spent a day in Charlotte securing an apartment in Uptown, two days in Durham for Will & Jenny's beautiful wedding, and a half-day in Salisbury before finding ourselves sitting in the Charlotte airport waiting for our plane.
From Charlotte we head to Toronto and the Great White North followed by a stop-over in Munich for an hour of reminiscing about Oktoberfest before finally ending up in Praha. Hopefully this patch-work trip of flights will go off without a hitch, although I worry that the switch from AirCanada to Lufthansa in Munich (and more importantly the transfer of our luggage) will not be quite as smooth as the lady at the counter assured me it will be.
From the first passport check-point I can tell I'm going to be repeatedly ridiculed. I handed the lady my passport and she looked at my picture, looked at me, looked at my picture, looked somewhat perplexed, and finally outright laughed. Apparently my 9-year-old passport photo is somewhat humorous, and if a lady in Charlotte finds it funny, I can only imagine what the Serbs and Turks are going to say when we finally reach their borders!
