September 8, 2018 (Part II)
Kati, Witten, and Mom at Teatrale alla Scala |
We finally got to the Hotel dei Cavalieri around 2:00 pm, and Witten went down for a much needed nap. She actually fell asleep on the shuttle to the hotel . . . In the most awkward position imaginable, but she was done so didn’t wake up with any of the transfers. She didn’t even wake up when we repeatedly - but inadvertently - set the alarm in our room off multiple times!
At 3:30, we finally woke Witten up and struck out on the town. The Piazza del Duomo was more packed than I think I’ve ever seen it, but the Duomo itself never disappoints. After a quick stroll through the Galleria Vittorio Emanuel II, we headed over to the Museo Teatrale alla Scala. I’ve seen some incredible opera houses in Europe - Prague and Budapest among them - but after 12 years of traveling abroad, La Scala is still the most impressive. Unfortunately, Witten prevented us from going to see the ballet that is playing there right now, but we still got to walk inside the theater and see it in all of its glory.
Relaxing at the Bulgari Hotel |
Afterwards, we spent about an hour perusing the storefronts in the Quadrilatero d’Oro, but everyone was starting to feel the length of the day, so we decided to cut our shopping endeavor short and head over to the Bulgari Hotel, where we spent the rest of the afternoon lounging in the garden, drinking Spumante. When aperetivo rolled around at 6:30, we shoved down some appetizers and then made our way back to the hotel for the evening. Everyone but me was wiped, so I said my goodnights and went back out into the city to spend some time taking pictures of Milan at night.
